Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery performed to reverse the effects of aging on the eyelids and skin surrounding the eyes.
This procedure is more commonly known as an eye lift. Meanwhile, non surgical eye lift products and treatments are technically not Blepharoplasty.
A plastic surgery eye lift involves the removal of fatty tissue around the eyelids that cause them to sag and droop. It also removes excess skin and tightens supporting muscles around the eyes.
Consultation
The very first step toward undergoing plastic surgery eye lift is consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. During consultation the eye lift surgeon will be able to evaluate the patient and explain the available options that will help the patient attain their goals. The patient will also receive an individualized price quote based on the amount of work necessary.
A second meeting will be scheduled which will be another opportunity for the patient to address any additional questions or concerns that might have come up since the consultation. The surgeon will also provide instructions regarding the preparation for surgery day.
Surgical Procedure
Plastic surgery of the eyelids can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on the scale of the procedure. The amount of skin and fat that needs to be removed and where the excess tissue is located will factor into the amount of time necessary. The average procedure lasts less than two hours.
Eye Lift Recovery
The first couple of weeks after the surgical procedure, there will be significant swelling and bruising to be expected. The degree of these side effects is quite severe and can be alarming for patients. It isn’t unusual for the plastic surgeon to receive at least one phone call from the patient who is concerned about the success of the procedure.
However, this is typical and once the eyes have had a chance to begin healing the swelling and bruising will get better quickly after the first few days of after surgery. Most plastic surgeons will do their best to prepare the patient for this.
Eye Lift Results
The final results from plastic surgery eye lift will actually take up to six months to come into form. During this period the tissue and muscles around the eye will adjust to the reduced amount of fat and excess skin. The muscles strengthen in the months after surgery so the entire area is tighter and more youthful looking. The scars will also be progressively becoming less noticeable during the recovery period.
Eye lift surgery can be performed for both cosmetic and functional purposes. The procedure is more commonly performed for its cosmetic, anti-aging results. It is a way for patients to rejuvenate the youthfulness in their eyes and remove bags under the eyes.
