Fraxel is a procedure used to treat multiple problem areas such as sun damaged skin, redness, age spots, wrinkles, acne scars, irregularities in skin pigment or texture, uneven skin tone, and so forth. These treatments are safe and effective, with three options to choose from. In addition, they are FDA approved.
Treatments range in aggressiveness from Fraxel restore or Fraxel refine, to Fraxel repair. Down time for treatments vary depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. Fraxel repair has the most dramatic result but requires more down time. However, it is a one time treatment unlike the less aggressive treatments, Fraxel restore or Fraxel refine. These two procedures require anywhere from 3 to 6 treatments, but require less downtime.
Types of Fraxel Treament
Each procedure targets certain issues. Fraxel refine is used to treat fine lines, spots due to aging or the sun, and irregularities in the skin. This procedure is ideal for skin maintenance and prevention of skin damage. Most patients are able to resume their usual day to day activities within the same day of treatment.
Fraxel restore is great for treating eye wrinkles, scars from acne or surgery, age spots, sun spots, and skin discoloration. This procedure is used for mild to severe skin damage.
Most patients are able to resume their daily activities within a couple of days, minimal being one to two days.
Fraxel repair is the most aggressive of the three treatments, and corrects severely damaged skin. Not only does it fix any skin problem, but it also tightens your skin. Most patients resume their normal activities in the second week.
Time frame of each Fraxel treatment ranges from 20-25 minutes. Fraxel is both highly effective and provides minimal down time.
Whichever Fraxel treatment you choose to undergo, it is sure to give you significantly noticeable results. To help determine which procedure best suits you, you should consult your physician.
How Fraxel Laser Works
In short, Fraxel uses laser technology to steadily stimulate your own skin to help restore damaged areas. It goes deep into the dermis (your second layer of skin), stimulating it to restore and produce new collagen to form new skin. This method removes older skin, as well as damaged skin. If the patient feels discomfort and notices the appearance similar to sunburn, it is nothing to worry about. The skin is simply repairing itself. To minimize discomfort, you may treat the irritated area like a sunburn and keep it moisturized and out of heavy sunlight. You may also apply sunscreen, and even make up if skin sensitivity is minimal.
Cost of Fraxel Treatment
The cost of Fraxel skin resurfacing procedures can range anywhere from $400 to $1,000 per session. You must keep in mind that costs vary depending on your personal condition as well as from clinic to clinic. Medical insurance does not cover Fraxel treatments since it is considered a cosmetic procedure. Financing is available for patient that cannot afford to cover the cost out of pocket.
