Body jet liposuction is a popular brand of water assisted liposuction which is a relatively new liposuction technique that uses a water spray to break up excess fat and remove it from areas of the body. It is a procedure that requires minimal downtime so the patient is able to resume normal activities shortly after the procedure is completed.
The amount of bruising and discomfort is significantly less than most traditional liposuction surgerie and most patients only need a couple days for recovery. Body jet liposuction, also known as water jet liposuction is able to sculpt areas of the body with very accurate results.
Compared to Traditional Liposuction
Liposuction traditionally requires the plastic surgeon to move the cannula, the suction tube, back and forth to break up fat with force. The body-jet liposuction technique uses a spray of water which is much gentler and poses fewer risks of damaging tissue in the surrounding area.
The gentle spray of water assisted liposuction means less bruising and a shorter recovery period compared to traditional liposuction which can take weeks for the body to heal. It also offers an efficient way to manage fluids which are the cause of bloating and swelling after the incision is closed.
Most patients only require a local anesthesia which minimizes the complications associated with sedating a patient. The actual dosage and anesthesia administered will depend largely on the scale of the procedure and the patient’s individual needs.
How it Works
The cannula is attached to a tube that releases a pulsating spray of water. As the fat is broken up by the spray of water, it is simultaneously removed by the suction of the cannula. Usually, the actual fat removing process is preceded by an injection containing the local anesthetic. While the suction removes fluids as quickly as it is sprayed into the area, there will be a drying period that suctions the remaining loose fat particles and any leftover fluid. This leaves the treatment area drier than traditional liposuction so the patient experiences very little discomfort during and after the procedure.
Treatment Areas
Just as most types of liposuction, body jet liposuction can be used on almost any area of the body where fat reduction is desired. The most commonly treated areas include the chin, arms, knees, thighs, hips and abdomen. It is common for patients to request multiple treatment areas because it is an effective and fairly convenient procedure compared to traditional liposuction. The best results can be seen in areas of the body where stubborn fat is less responsive to exercise and dieting.
Candidates should be in overall good health and should not smoke or be taking any type of medication in the weeks or months leading up to surgery. The patient should not be more than about 25 pounds overweight.
